The 2021 event theme continues with the amazing Giant Otters!
The Yorkshire Wildlife Park Foundation is an active supporter of a key project in remote areas of South America to preserve the Giant Otter threatened by deforestation, commercial fisheries, and increased industrialisation across the Amazon Basin. YWPF funds a scheme to improve management and conservation of the Cantão ecosystem, carrying out local field surveys in the 90,000 hectare Cantão State Park, in Brazil, which is home to 700 species of birds and 300 species of fish. The project will improve awareness of the Giant Otters and the need for conservation, and will create local jobs as 30 oxbow lakes and river channels will be constantly monitored and other areas surveyed.
Working in association with Yorkshire Wildlife Park, YWPF are working to raise awareness for the endangered giant otter at the the park. The otter reserve at Yorkshire Wildlife Park will help visitors understand the species and their fight for survival.
2020's medals will be labelled spring, simply put we had ordered these ahead of the cancellation and we don't want 1350 medals going in the bin (plus they're very collectable as the event that never happened!)
If you did join us for the virtual event in 2020 and already have your otter medal... don't worry, we've added a question when you sign up. We have arranged an alternative Otter medal, the we have had made especially celebrating the parks smaller Otter residents :)
You can also add a Giant Otter event t-shirt when you enter and profits go to the YWP Foundation. We will have very limited spares on the day for sale!
Yorkshire Wildlife Park is home to the charity The Yorkshire Wildlife Park Foundation. The Foundation was created in 2013 to inspire people to support conservation and welfare. YWPF’s charitable objectives are to promote and advance the conservation and welfare of endangered wildlife both in their natural habitat and in captivity and to educate and inspire the public
The Run for Wildlife events help to raise awareness and support fundraising for the Foundation.
Your entry fee supports the foundation, as does adding a t-shirt or making a direct donation when you enter.
You can also fundraise as part of running the event and ask friends, family or work colleagues to donate. Run in fancy dress or maybe it's your first ever run. Whatever your reason for running it, you can rest assured that you will be helping the Foundation to support more animals.
You'll find a handy manual sponsorship form and fundraising pack here
