Autumns event theme is the amazing Painted Dogs!
Painted Dogs are the second most endangered carnivore in Africa. In the 1900’s, more than 500,000 dogs roamed Africa across 39 counties. Today, less than 5,000 Painted Dogs remain in just a few countries. People kill Painted Dogs as they are seen as a threat to their farm animals, they are caught in snares which are set for antelope and they are killed on roads. Through these actions humans have managed to reduce Africa’s Painted Dog population to 1% of what it used to be.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park Foundation (YWPF) is supporting Painted Dogs by raising awareness and funding projects like the vaccination programme through Wildlife Vets International, monitoring their numbers and running anti-poaching patrols in Mozambique and community awareness and research into their behaviour in Zimbabwe through Painted Dog Conservation and Painted Dog Research Trust.
You can also add a painted dog event t-shirt when you enter and profits go to the YWP Foundation.
We will have very limited spares on the day for sale!
Yorkshire Wildlife Park is home to the charity The Yorkshire Wildlife Park Foundation. The Foundation was created in 2013 to inspire people to support conservation and welfare. YWPF’s charitable objectives are to promote and advance the conservation and welfare of endangered wildlife both in their natural habitat and in captivity and to educate and inspire the public
The Run for Wildlife events help to raise awareness and support fundraising for the Foundation.
Your entry fee supports the foundation, as does adding a t-shirt or making a direct donation when you enter.
You can also fundraise as part of running the event and ask friends, family or work colleagues to donate. Run in fancy dress or maybe it's your first ever run. Whatever your reason for running it, you can rest assured that you will be helping the Foundation to support more animals.
